Biography:

 

  Kiwon Lee is Founder and CEO of Ybrain Inc. - a medical technology company focusing on Neuroscience. Leading 40 employees, including medical doctors, masters, and Ph.D.s from the fields of Neuroscience, Materials Science, Bio Medical Engineering, and Computer Science, Kiwon has developed novel medical device solutions that enable remote healthcare for mental disorder patients. 

  Ybrain’s first commercial medical device ‘MINDD’ has been approved by Korea FDA for depression treatment and post-stroke motor rehabilitation. Ybrain is currently running pilot clinical trials in Mild Cognitive Impairment, Addiction, ADHD, Schizophrenia, PTSD, and etc. with total 17 major hospitals in Korea. Ybrain owns more than 30 registered patents for sensor materials, wearable medical devices, and remote/personalized treatment platform.

  Prior to founding Ybrain, Kiwon Lee was a Senior Researcher at Samsung after receiving his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in device miniaturization from Department of Materials Science and Engineering, KAIST. Based on his works, he was awarded best papers in IEEE conferences, received IEEE graduate research fellowship in 2007, and registered more than 10 patents in device miniaturization applications.

 

 Abstract:

 

  In recent years, neuromodulation techniques have gained increasing attention not only from research communities but also medical and healthcare industry. Due to limitations of conventional medication and medical devices, various neuromodulation techniques has been introduced as alternatives treatment methods for the treatment of important neuropsychiatric diseases such as depression, dementia, and Parkinson’s. The speaker will introduce non-invasive electric brain stimulation devices as one of the most promising method for depression treatment and, as a materials engineer, he will also introduce how printed electronics will be able to innovate depression treatment at home.
