  • Since 1996, he has been a Senior Member of R&D Staff at the Power Electronics Laboratory, Delta Products Corporation, Research Triangle Park, NC - the U.S. subsidiary of Delta Electronics, Inc., Taiwan

  • He holds 30 U.S. patents, and has published 31 journal articles in referred journals and more than 50 technical papers in conference proceedings 

  • He received the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER ELECTRONICS Prize paper awards for the best paper published in 1996, 2009, and 2013 

  • He is a fellow of IEEE since 2016

 

 Abstract:

 

  • Emerging electric vehicle (EV) area requires solid support from power electronics field since it is dependent on solid state electrical devices for the processing of electric power. Traditionally, silicon (Si) semiconductors have been employed in power conversion. However, newly introduced wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductors are capable of operating at higher switching frequencies with better efficiency compared to existing Si devices. These characteristics are important for EV applications since they can significantly reduce volume and weight of power processing and battery charging system, due to decreased cooling requirements and smaller passive components. In this presentation, WBG device applications for EV charging systems will be discussed.
