 Abstract:

  • Today’s car is already packed with electronics and, in fact, has among the highest densities of electronic components of all consumer machines. This automotive industry transformation trend is seen to continue with forecasted silicon content per car to increase from US$313 (2016) to US$366 (2023), multiplied by an increasing number of vehicles on the roads, representing a significant opportunity for all stakeholders involved. As a supplier of many of the silicon technologies inside the car, STMicroelectronics already sees the car as a technology hub which is powered by a plethora of technologies. Enabled by these cutting edge technologies, industry watchers predict the next big things in Automotive are vehicles with lower emission, higher energy efficiency, New and alternative Energies like NV/HEV, connected vehicle and Autonomous Driving.

  • In a world where the roads are becoming safer, vehicles are connected with everything. Objects will receive and emit information about their status, environment, and location. This vision is enabled by a new generation of electronics products, including Power Semiconductors for Electric Vehicle, radar sensors and multiple type of sensors, camera, MEMS and sensor fusion technologies, and new generations of Vision microcontrollers.

  • Car connectivity and electrification are progressively changing the automotive industry with increasing silicon content in every vehicle. ST is ready to serve this market transformation with its connectivity products, power technologies and full system solutions.
