ESG and Sustainability: Usher in a New Era with Net Zero
To cope with the impact of climate change, governments, society, and enterprises around the world are all moving towards the goal of global net-zero emissions. The 2020 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) has 58 global semiconductor and semiconductor equipment companies participating in the evaluation, only 7 of which are selected as components, and 4 of them are Taiwanese companies: TSMC, UMC, ASE, and WIN Semiconductors Corp.!
Both the global semiconductor industry and Taiwan are facing the challenge of climate change, and with the improvement of chip manufacturing technology, the consumption of water, electricity, and resources is also increasing. ESG and sustainable development have become the key competitiveness of Taiwan's semiconductor industry chain resilience in the next decade.
More and more world’s largest companies have embarked on an ambitious journey of reaching net-zero by 2050, making every effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promoting energy efficiency through various innovative technologies, working on waste reduction, circular economy, and other innovative models while maximizing corporate governance and performance to achieve the mid-term and long-term goals, and eventually ‘carbon neutrality’.
SEMI is committed to bringing together domestic industry players to not only pushing ‘green manufacturing’ forward but also taking ‘economic growth’ and ‘environmental protection’ to the next level. It will continue to facilitate the industry members of Taiwan in their road to sustainability transformation, showing the world what Taiwan has done and capable of doing, and exploring business opportunities and new possibilities in the pursuit of sustainability.
