Dr. Chintay Shih holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University, a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University, and an MS in Management from Stanford University. He is currently an Honorary Chair Professor at the College of Technology Management, National Tsing Hua University, and the Chairman of the Pan Wen Yuan Foundation.
Upon returning to Taiwan in 1976, Dr. Shih joined ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) and participated in the first wave of semiconductor technology introduction. He helped establish spin-off companies such as UMC (United Microelectronics Corporation), TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), and VIS (Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation), thereby opening a new chapter for Taiwan's semiconductor industry.
In 1994, he was promoted to President of ITRI, where he established open laboratories, promoted collaborative technology research and development, and fostered innovation incubation centers. He also spearheaded the development of emerging fields.
In 2004, Dr. Shih was invited to serve as the Dean of the College of Technology Management at National Tsing Hua University. He injected significant resources and development opportunities into technology management education, encouraging industry-academia collaboration. He also promoted the joint development of case studies on outstanding Taiwanese enterprises with Harvard University and established the nation's first Institute of Service Science to cultivate top management talent.
He has served as the first Chairman of the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA), Chairman of the Institute for Information Industry (III), and Chairman of the Monte Jade Global Science and Technology Association, continuously striving for industrial transformation and upgrading.
